URBAN BODY was born in Davis, California, in 2003. We opened a small studio with a simple conviction: piercing and tattooing are a real profession — with standards, training, and responsibility — not another mall kiosk.
We learned from the best. Avishay Shabtai, our founder, apprenticed under Fakir Musafar — widely regarded as the father of modern piercing, and the man who established the world's first professional piercing school. Training with Fakir isn't a certificate on the wall; it's a way of working — respect for the body, deep anatomical understanding, and zero compromise on sterility.
In 2014 we brought the studio home, to Bograshov Street in the heart of Tel Aviv. We brought everything we'd learned in California with us — and added one more thing: URBAN BODY became the first studio in Israel accepted as an official member of the APP — the Association of Professional Piercers, the organization that sets the world's strictest safety standards for professional piercing.
Thousands of clients have walked through our door since. Some got their first piercing here at sixteen and now come back with their own kids. That, more than any certificate, is what we're proudest of.
